Water safety

A simple wristband can save a life

On holiday, or at home – for pools, ponds, lakes and rivers, or even by the sea...

The Splash! wristband alarm for your children. This attractive, lockable wristband can provide additional peace of mind both at home and abroad, wherever there is a water hazard. If your child should accidently fall in the water, the 100Db base station alarm is immediately activated. The base station can be either in the home, or with you by the pool, river or lake - it’s totally portable.

Water safety

Prevent an accident turning into a tragedy...

Swimming pools are great fun, and for children in particular, can be a real focal point of a holiday. But as we all know, with small children and toddlers, you only need to be distracted for a few brief moments, and they've disappeared from sight. Toddlers, in particular, often do something unexpected, because their capabilities change daily. It's in these few moments, that a minor accident, could turn into a tragedy.

A recently published report from the US, highlights some of the key facts: Each year, in America, more than 300 children under 5 years old drown, and more than 2,000 are treated in hospital A&E for submersion injures. Another report showed that 75% of submersion victims were between 1 and 3 years old, and of these 65% were boys.

Water safety

An interesting point is that at the time of the incidents, most victims were being supervised by one, or both parents. Indeed 69% of the children were not expected to be at or in the pool, yet they were found in the water. Pool submersions involving children happen quickly, and 75% of the victims had been missing from sight for 5 minutes or less.

Survival depends on rescuing the child quickly and restarting the breathing process, even while the child is still in the water. Seconds count in preventing death or brain damage. Child drowning is a silent death. Often there's no splashing to alert anyone that the child is in trouble.

If you have toddlers or small children, consider taking a wristband alarm on holiday. They're totally portable and easy to use. And, whilst these are not in anyway a replacement for proper supervision, they can be an effective last line of defence in preventing a tragedy.
